چکیده

Quality of Service (QoS) routing in computer networks is an important component in QoS architectures in order to provide end-to-end QoS support. Two major issues make QoS routing difficult: (1) Most of the QoS routing problems are NP-hard, such as the Delay Constraint Least Cost Routing (DCLCR) problem; (2) Imprecise network information degrades the routing performance. Using DCLCR problem as an example, we investigate the techniques for improving the performance of the existing ticket-based routing (TBR) algorithm, so that the negative impacts from the above two difficulties are reduced. There exist two major limitations in the existing TBR algorithm. First, the probing strategies are not optimized. For example, there are unnecessary ticket dropping and redundant probing in some network scenarios. Second, the decision of the ticket numbers does not take topology information into consideration. We extend TBR to address these limitations. The main achievements of this thesis are as follows: 1. Enhanced Ticket-based Routing (ETBR) algorithm is proposed to optimize the ticket probing process. Two optimization techniques are used. First, the color-based ticket distribution sets avoid incorrect ticket dropping. Second, the historical probing records optimize the ticket states, so that the redundant probing is removed. 2. Generalized Ticket-based Routing (GTBR) algorithm is proposed to allow any number of ticket types to be used to find the route, which makes the ticket-based routing algorithm more flexible.

Enhanced Distributed QoS Routing Algorithms in Wireless Networks

One of the goals of a routing protocol is how to satisfy the Quality-of-Service requirements for every admitted connection and how to achieve the global efficiency in resource utilization. On the other hands, the main goal of QoS routing; is to find a network path with sufficient resources to satisfy certain constraints on metrics such as delay and bandwidth. Many unicast / multicast QoS routin...

Impact of Resource Reservation on the Distributed Multi–path Quality of Service Routing Scheme

This paper studies the impact of resource reservation on the multi–path Quality–of–Service (QoS) routing schemes that use global network state to make routing decisions. Incorporating resource reservation into multi–path QoS routing algorithms greatly changes the communication characteristics in a network system and affects the performance of the routing algorithms. In this paper, we develop a ...

Advanced operations research techniques for multi-constraint QoS routing in internet

Internet Traffic has grown exponentially over last few years due to provision of multiple class services through Internet backbone. With the explosive use of Internet, contemporary Internet routers are susceptible to overloads and their services deteriorate drastically and often cause denial of services. In this paper, an analysis is made how forecasting technique, routing algorithm and Genetic...

The enhanced ticket-based routing algorithm

The Delay-constrained least-cost routing problem is to find the least cost path which satisfies a given delay constraint. There are two major difficulties to solve this problem. The first difficulty is the NP-Completeness of this routing problem. The second difficulty is that the networking information used for routing may be imprecise. The ticket-based routing (TBR) algorithm[1], aiming to fin...

Reservation Mechanisms for DistributedMulti { path Quality of Service

This paper studies resource reservation mechanisms that can be incorporated into distributed multi{path Quality{of{Service (QoS) routing algorithms. Three resource reservation schemes, the forward reservation scheme, the backward reservation scheme and the hybrid reservation scheme, are investigated. Protocols that combine these resource reservation schemes with a ticket{based distributed QoS r...
